I recently flew from East Midlands to Palma with XL airways, and after reading other peoples reviews I wasn't looking forward to the flight at all.
Check in went smoothly and the staff were friendly and helpful, on the way back we were not charged for over 7kg of excess luggage we had.
Our outbound flight was delayed for just over half an hour as we were waiting for the co-pilot to fly up from Gatwick, the pilot however apologised to us all as we disembarked the plane at Palma.
The in-flight entertainment consisted of episodes of the Simpsons, Top Gear, Gordon Ramsay's hells kitchen and the class, as well as several radio channels.
There was no meal on the flight, but a full range of snacks, drinks and sandwiches available for purchase.
I am 5'6" and size 18 and I didn't have a problem with the leg room or seat pitch. On the outbound flight we discovered that there were several rows of empty seats towards the rear of the plane, and moved to sit in these so we had more room, and on the way back we had 3 seats between the two of us, so were once again able to stretch out a bit.
Overall I could not fault XL airways, and would I fly with them again? Definitely.
