General Comments

I reserved (off plan) a home of David Wilson Homes last May (07) with a view to moving in in Dec (07). I finally moved in this May (08). Right from the start I found DW were not easy to deal with. I had 20 minutes to choose all my flooring, carpets and tiles for the entire property. I had to pay up front for everything, including a partition wall that I didn't want put in! Yes paying them not to do something, apparently this is the norm. The communication between myself and DW sales up to completion was simply poor, I just couldn't get anyone to return my calls. However, when I wrote to the MD copying in the Chief Exec I got a call. I could go on and on but it would be boring. Basically i bought a luxury apartment in a 'flagship' development in a city centre but there is nothing luxury about it. Which is a shame given that I paid so much. The bathrooms are the standard type with sanitary ware that could be bought in any DIY shop, complete with plastic bath panel, cheap plastic toilet seat and a black rubber plug! No fitted cupboards or anything (the launch brochure, which is all I had to go on at the time, showed a very modern bathroom complete with furniture). The kitchen is the same. The workmanship is fairly sloppy (i.e. lumps of grout on the tiles that i still can't get off, uneven tiling) some snags have been worked through but I still have quite a long list to be completed and I have been in two months. I feel they have cut corners. I am on my 3rd site manager since May so it has been hard to build a rapport with folk you are dealing with. I wouldn't buy a DW home again and couldn't recommend them.

Thank you for your review and sorry to hear about your experience. Regarding the luxury of the apartment I can't but agree. I think the word 'luxury' must be the worst and most dishonest buzz word going in the whole building industry. Me and my wife regularly look at so called 'luxury homes' and 'luxury spacious apartments'. To me the fact that most of them are smaller than the little 3 bedroom box we currently live in as students, is enough to question the luxuriousness of the places. What is it with this country and disregarding people's need for space to live? I wish local authorities and house builders stopped building little boxed houses and apartments and take the approach to house building the rest of Europe has been taken for years. Spacious, light and modern design. Perhaps then the 'luxury' term would for once be justified!
