Royal Mail by and large offers a great service at a fair price. I occasionally sell items on ebay and I have never had a claim that something has not been delivered.
Not always signatures for recorded delivery.
On ebay (because of some horror stories posted on the internet) I started using Recorded Delivery to get independent proof that items had been delivered - just in case a bidder tried "pulling a fast one". Unfortunately too many items of delivered mail I sent were not entered on Royal Mail's Track and Trace Service even though I am confident that all the items were delivered. So, I have not had my independent proof of delivery on quite a high proportion of mail sent by Recorded Delivery (about 20%). I am beginning to think I am wasting my money (or the money of the people who are bidding). I suppose the use of Recorded Delivery might deter some "would be" problem bidder so it still might be worth it from that point of view. BUT I can't see why Royal Mail doesn't get signatures for ALL its Recorded Delivery mail. I have had the occasional refund of the fee I paid via free books of stamps but I would much sooner have the service. It would take me a lot longer to deliver mail myself and certainly cost a lot more. Just a few pence will take a small item all the way to Australia in pretty quick time. I think I will stop using Recorded Delivery and rely on the Proof of Posting instead.
