They gave us a cheap quote.

General Comments

We got a cheap quote from Direct Line for home insurance but when going through all the details with a member of staff on the phone I asked if we would be covered for flood damage. The member of staff asked me if the river we lived near had ever flooded since it's existence, I replied that we had just moved in and did not know. He told me I must reply yes or no, I didn't know what to say and told him that given that the river is the Thames and is thousands of years old it is probable that it has flooded at some point but as far as we are aware the property we had just purchased had never suffered flood damage even though it is over 100 years old. The man then said that I would not be getting the flood damage cover. I asked why and he said that it was because I had told him that the Thames might have flooded at some point. I couldn't believe my ears! On asking for an explanation he told me that I should have said no but then I asked what if I had said no and been wrong and he said that if my property was ever flooded and it turned out the river had flooded before I would not be covered. What can you do? I wouldn't recommend Direct Line.
