Saul.'s review of Ford Taurus SHO

“all in all the Ford Taurus is a great car for someone...”

★★★★☆

Good Points
The 1990 Taurus SHO really suprised me. Even with 150,000 miles on the odemeter this car packs a punch. On my first test drive i couldnt believe the acceleration, this car can outrun pre 94 mustang 5.0 gt's and camaro iroc z's. It's unbelievable, i hated ford before this experience but this totally changed my mind.there is so much interior room and trunk space not to mention that its a four door. the zero to 60 time on this car is 6.6 seconds. This car is FAST

Bad Points
ok, now the downside. unfortunatly this car eats gas like there will be no tomorrow, no matter how fast you go. i fill the tank up every three days compared to once a week with my civic. Also this car is a terrible eyesore, just plain dog ugly, but oh well the speed more than makes up for those points.

General Comments
all in all the Ford Taurus is a great car for someone who loves speed but also needs to be able to haul friends and family around town in comfort. Just be sure to have enough money for gas and constant up keep for your high performance engine.

You're right on most of your stuff but I owned a 91 Mustang GT and it was faster off the line and on the go.The SHO will stay with it however it can't beat a pre '94 unless you surprise them.A '91 GT was clocked at 6.3 0-60 and the LX's were about 6.1 0-60.The best they got out of a SHO was 6.6 but they normally run about 6.8.Check the stats online.Still very fast for a 4-door car with a small engine and alot of weight.I know I own a 94 MTX with 106K on it and it runs almost as fast as when I bought it and I've beaten pre-96 Mustang GT's and Camaros and Vettes and it will even stay a car length behind a newer 'Stang. As far as looks go I dont understand your comments but its your opinion.Personally it's one of the most handsome 4-door cars to come out in the last 20 years maybe ever.It has personality beyond anything Chevy makes in a 4-door or any of the Asian autos made.Unfortunately they ruined it with the 96-99 models but a good thing can't last forever and the few of us who do own an SHO know these cars are very special.Only the BMW 5 series is nicer looking but for 2 or 3 times the price.

I don't know why you are getting such poor gas mileage on your SHO. I have a '94 mtx with some serious modifications done at the ShoShop in California which has bumped up the HP to about 330 or so. The car was a gift from my Houston based family and I had to drive it the 2,000 miles back to Toronto. I drive at 60-65 mph and was AMAZED at the SUPERB mileage. The SHO got over 31 mpg and over 400 miles per tank of gas. I love the car. I've owned BMW's, Mustang, Cadillac, Mercedes. Toyota, and a slew of company cars. This car is right up there with the best. It is certainly FUN to drive. VAAARRROOOOOOMMMMMM!

A lot of racing has to do with the driver. On the street, when Joe Smoe races, Tenths of seconds on take off won't win the race. I realize in real competition this make a huge differnce. If cars are fairly evenly matched the driver that drives with more conviction is going to win. Any real sports car, with the right mods, could spank the SHO. By the way, I think they can be atractive cars.
