Good Points
Produced good tasting water.

Bad Points
Poor design, poor materials.

General Comments
Initial impression of the Aquasana filter was that it was relatively simple to maintain. Once I had changed the filters a few times, I simply hated the device. The O-Ring seal method chosen is too fussy; no matter how well lubricated, they will bunch up preventing a seal. Getting the filter covers tight enough to stop seepage is also very difficult. Once they are tight , it took a pair of Channel Locks to get them off. As far as the materials go, the covers plastic threads are very easy to shear off. The brittle plastic fittings on the bottom of the filter (where the water passes from one side to the other) breaks too easily even with careful handling.

Overall, mine was a piece of junk. Do not buy it for any amount.

Sun Water Systems, Inc. has completely redesigned the housing on the AQ-4000. Gone are flimsy o-rings, the cap threads are slanted to make replacing cartridges easier, the housing walls are re-enforced. All-in-all over 20 improvements have been done. I happened to get one of the new models and the difference is huge in comparison to the old model. Definitely worth $100.
