Bad Points

Took an hour and a half to arrive was told they would call me if over an hour...they did not.


General Comments

We had to wait for First Call breakdown cover on the hard shoulder of the M74 for 1 1/2 hours with 3 children all aged 5 and under. I rang several times and was told if it was over an hour they would let me know... they did not. We were then recovered to the nearest service station and told our engine was probably damaged beyond repair due to my husband over filling the oil, and that we were to be left there with no further assistance as it was our fault. At this point I must note the man had not given the car a proper inspection (we were 450 miles from home). It was 7.30am on a sunday morning literally in ther middle of nowhere. The recovery man left. I then called first call again to literally plead with them to help me. The girl agreed to do this after pointing out she did not have to do this and it was due to her her goodwill and obviously after I gave out my debit card details so they could take payment. Anyway they arranged for another recovery man (from same company) to come and get the car, drain the oil and hey presto it was drivable again). By this time I was £400 lighter. It was a good outcome in the end and purely down to the goodwill of the girl and the second recovery man who chose to help us, but I will never ever choose the cheap option for motor breakdown cover again. This exclusion is in the small print of the policy document (not in their advertisement). If you need peace of mind when travelling by car and have a family do not choose first call. I purchased this policy only a month ago but will be taking out cover with the RAC whom I was with before and have to say gave excellent service.
