My sister and I bought ring from Ernest Jones for my mum's 60th birthday, as she doesn't socialise often and had worn it twice when I noticed that 2 stones were missing at the side. It also looked like the ring was buckling slightly. Took this to the Argycle Arcade shop in Glasgow to be advised by the Customer staff that it was customer damage - that was before they even sent it away to be inspected by a specialist in jewellery! After I insisted that they sent it away to be inspected ( they weren't going to because I didn't have the receipt) and I was confident that they would realise it was faulty as my mum had only worn it twice and the ring was still on sale in their window. Confident that they would realise that it was faulty they sent it away only for them to phone the next day (less than 24 hours since I handed it in) to insist that it was Customer Damage and that I could pay to get it fixed. I was absolutely furious. I don't know how you can damage a ring to cause 2 stones to fall out that is still in tact with no obvious damage to it. I have bought dress rings from the half price jewellers that are still in tact from years ago that had been worn them on a daily basis.
If my mother had genuinely damaged the ring of course I would pay to get it fixed, I wouldn't embarrass myself, however, this ring was worn about 12 hours in total so this is what really angers me about it!
I have friends who bought their wedding rings from EJ, I warned them not to so we'll see if their rings last a lifetime! I wouldn't bet on it!
