Good Points

Playback quality excellent and very slim, otherwise useless.


Bad Points

Always freezing, would not eject disc at one point luckily was a test recording it's probably still in the first machine I returned. Got an exchange for a replacement still freezing, if put in standby, when next turned on all channels lost and needed to be reset updated firmware via usb, no problems loading but did not solve problems. Very disappointed as have never had problem with Philips products before. They definately cut corners with this one.


General Comments

Would not recommend the Philips DVDR5500 to anyone, if you buy this recorder lets hope you will not be frustrated and have many regrets like I have. This is an unbiased review as I actually like philips products. Their T.V's are excellent and trouble free and I would definately recommend them but they have let their customers down with this one. And through my own experience and feeedback from others they are in denial about their recorders. Steer clear!!!!!!!!!!!
