Good Points

I am not aware of any compared to an ordinary bank card.

General Comments

My daughter got one of these recently. She went abroad with it, and unfortunately without her bank card. A few days later a letter arrived for her. With her permission, I opened it. It was asking for more ID for credit checks. Card could not be loaded with money until done. Daughter ran out of money as she doesn ' t have much on it to start with (she was expecting wages just after leaving the country so could top up then). Had to borrow from new acquaintances for food, etc. I got a fax number for her so she could fax ID through to Post Office from abroad. It didn't all get through; she had to do it again. Done at last. So then I can pay in some money for her? Not so simple. Given lots of different contradictory answers about this: "Only your daughter can top up the card." Wrong. "You can top it up at the post office but not over the phone". Went to Post Office. "You need the card." Wrong (ridiculous when you think about it - it's in Greece, I'm in UK). "You can't do it at this Post Office" - after checking Post Office staff helpline. Given 2 others to try. Try them. "You can't do it here, try X Post Office" (after call to Post Office staff helpline). Wrong again. Went to 4 Post Offices, over 3 hours before successful. Even then I had to convince them it was possible to do the transaction there and not to bother with their helpline. I had finally got the name of a Post Office I could do this by phoning a customer service complaints number. Even they first tried to tell me I needed the card myself and I had to put them right. Poor woman answering the phone admitted to having the same problem with ID as my daughter when she had used one! Finally sorted, but it took a week for me to get some cash to my daughter.

I found this review very helpful because... I have just now attempted to take advantage of ryanair's current offer of some flights available at GBP0.01 each way and also at the closest Euro equivalent, which unfortunately for us Brits is not that much different. Having got to the the payment stage and entered all the relevant details, name address, card type, number, expiry date etc., I was surprised to receive the message that the transaction had been declined. I have received no communication suggesting that further ID checks are required ltho I have recently received a letter detailing the change in terms and conditons. Fortunately I only loaded the card (about 2 months ago) with the minimum GBP50.00 which actually cost me GBP52.50 I seem to recall and I was not about to travel. but the inability to book a flight online right now when ryanair has issued a booking cutoff date of midnight tonight is galling!
