I have good credit rating so far and always paid my bills on time. I have no Mortgages and no debts. I rent a furnished flat and work full time. yet credit card not approved. Is it because I pay it regularly with out allowing any interest applied on credit?

Funny you should say that, but I am fuming also....I always keep a check of my credit report and rating using Experian.
Checked it minutes before applying online for a Tesco credit card and my credit score given was 'Excellent 999'.
I then went ahead to confidently apply for a tesco credit card....to be rejected on the basis of my credit check!?!
I rang them (Tesco), and was told they could arrange for this application to be checked over by a 'human being' (yea!) rather than a computer which i agreed to, to no avail.... I received a couple of days later a letter form Tesco to say i'd been rejected on the basis of my credit score and (this was the best bit) they advised me to keep a check on my credit situation by signing up to Experian!!!!!! Give me strength!!!!
