General Comments
Cannot say a bad word about theses guys. Phone them up - they answer and fast! Tech support articles are clear so you'll generally find what you want in their knowledge-base. However, if you want to discuss, they're always there and guess what - the sales guys know what they're talking about and aren't pushy.
On the performance side, I have been a long-term Demon customer but have sadly noticed a deterioration in their service e.g. overseas call centre, apparent throttling of service (only ever get speeds of < 1mbps with high quality and up to date hardware), unannounced SMTP change whereby if you have several email accounts, you can't send emails from them simultaneously and everything hangs. And this was on a higher, business level service!!
Moved to Zen after 11 years with Demon. Everything happened liked clockwork and I had 3 desktop macs and a laptop set up both wired ethernet and wireless within just 10 minutes. Not only that but average speed has now doubled to c. 2mbps (we'll never get superfast as we're 6.6km from a very rural exchange but at least we now have our maximum).
Are they expensive? - we'll my bill has dropped from > £24 with Demon to < £16 per month. OK you don't get a free router but I see that as a good thing: people who have changed supplier a few times will have plenty lying around.
Zen is a great example of how to run a customer facing business. I can't speak highly enough of them. Just hope they don't get sold to a a global monopoly and go the way of so many others....
