Hi, Have an Astra 1.4 L Reg car. Had it for 10 years or so now. Has been a brilliant car with no problems apart from occasionally updating small parts.
Never any bad points until now, which really is to be expected with such an old car!
Lately the car has decided to stall quite frequently, mostly when stationary at lights. Engine seems to dip and then recover but mostly it dies completely. I then cannot start it and it turns over very slowly. I dare not continue as it feels as if the engine is gradually flooding. This has happened to me 4 times in the last week. After giving the car 5 minutes, it then always starts promptly with no hesitation. When the car is running, I am so wary that when slowing or stopping I have to keep pumping the accelerator to keep the car from dipping. Also the car gets very hot, too soon after driving as if the coolant is not getting through!
It has now been in the Garage for nearly a week and they cannot seem to find what is wrong. I have suspected (through the Internet) that it may be a Faulty/Idle Control Valve, Temperature Gauge/Thermostat, maybe the filters need changing as I don't think they ever have been!
Apparently, Astra cars are well known to have a cutting out problem.
Should I maybe change all listed above?
