Good Points

I have been playing for 12 years only. I am just obsessed about the tone of a guitar. I had a band few years back. We used to play rock, metal and blues. Since I have started playing I always wanted the best sounding guitars in the world. I had heard big names for different sorts of playing like Fender Strat, Tele, Rich, Ibanez. I spend 6 months in an amszing music shop in Adelaide just trying all the electric big name guitars on a Marshall amp and a Pandora guitar processor. The guys in the store really got irritated but they knew I was genuinely interested in buying the best. For the price this studio is great but if you can spend a bit more then go for the Les Paul standard. Trust me as I am regarding the tone there is nothing like it. Even the most expensive custom Gibson or Classic, the pro digital or traditional. I am not biased at all as I have played all these big names and the fender series. There is nothing like Gibson Les Paul standard with the buckbucker pro pickups. Extremely rich mind boggling tones. I get high on it just by the sound, everytime I play it its just amazing how this happens eveytime.
So go for it it mates. Don't waste time and energy if you are a tone freak. Players vouch for fender but I think they haven't had the real feel for this wicked baby. There is just no comparison whatsoever. It's one of those better and finer things in life you shall never regret. It will be the dearest of your posessions. No I AM NOT EXAGERRATING.

Bad Points

HEAVY ,YES...BUT THE HOW DO YOU GET THAT DISTINCT TONE ANYWAY. Good things don't come in small packages. Don't go for it if you have a bad back or a weak shoulder.. As the neck is joined with the body the set neck construction for wood to wood contact for better sustain, tone and alignment you cant play the last 5-6 frts with ease, this is a really bad feature in the guitar. If only the upper part of the body was cut in the same way as the lower one then this problem would be sorted. I guess Gibson would have a very good reason to preserve that shape for so long. Could be contributing to its historical vintage shape or just a measure to preserve tone. I guess more wood better tone. 50s neck sounds better tha 60 thin one for this reason!!!

General Comments

To end up I would say the ease of playing is definitely better with a fender maple. Fretboards, say a tele or strat.....but for the tone .........there is nothing better than a Gibson Lespaul std. No question about it, it will take you places where no other guitar can ever dream of!!
