Lifesystems Expedition Natural Insect Repellent

Good Points
DEET free - less irritation, does not damage plastic, smells nicer.

Bad Points
Still smells bad.
Not as effective as DEET based sprays

General Comments
During a trip to Scotland last year I was warned about midges and their savage demeanour. I was given three options to avoid death by midge:

  • Eat marmite before and during the trip, as the vitamin D acts as a repellant

  • Avon "Skin So Soft" moisturiser

  • Mozzie repellant

I passed on the idea of eating Marmite - I'd prefer death by midge, thanks.
Avon Skin So Soft sounded OK, but was worried that I might smell like a flower and attract bees instead.
So mozzie repellant it was. I opted for the Lifesystems Expeditions Natural just to be sure the DEET in most sprays didn't leave me looking like I lived in a nettle patch.
The Expedition Natural spray worked pretty well. It uses things like Eucalyptus, lavender, lemon and other smelly oils to repel midges and such like, and seemed to work well. And no skin reaction after a week of constant use!
