In transit from Sydney to Los Angeles, my gate was located in an area down a flight of stairs. Neither the escalator nor the lift worked. Another flight was being checked in and we were not allowed to go to the toilets by security. Signs were posted everywhere to keep your bag with you, so I had to haul my heavy carry-on bag up and down the steep stairs to go to the toilet. I mentioned it to two male Air New Zealand employees who were rude and contemptuous. The flight from Perth to Auckland and then from Auckland to Los Angeles are too time consuming. It's not worth the lower price. Qantas is my choice.
