General Comments

Although Vonage is advertised as a cheap deal, it ends up being expensive if you can't get the service and end up using your mobile all the time instead. The service would work for 2 or 3 days perfectly then gradually it would get worse and worse. First of all the delay between the call being connected at the caller's end and at the recipient's end got longer and longer. So, on the recipients end there would be a long pause before they heard the callers voice, this pause eventually became so long that people who didn't know we had Vonage would put the phone down because they thought the line had cut out. Secondly, the line increasingly had no dialling tone when trying to make a call. Sometimes I would retry 10 or 15 times before getting one, though I usually gave up and used my mobile by this point! The system particularly didn't like mobile numbers, countless times I would dial a UK mobile number and the system would tell me either it was an international number, play a screeching sound or simply say 'Vonage'. Finally the phone line stopped working altogether when the internet was on and vice versa. I became so frustrated with the system that for the last month I had it I refused to make a phonecall on it and instead used my mobile. Cancelling it was a nightmare. The whole system from start to finish tested my patience. Any money I would have saved from using it has been more than used up making mobile phone calls when the system failed to work.
