I bought a Fender Strat last Saturday, and I took it back the next day. I was not impressed. For the cost of almost $400, I could've gotten an Epiphone Les Paul. I had one of those new Line 6 Spyder III amps and I found the sound I was looking for, but the Strat didn't deliver. A good starting guitar, but highly overrated for the more experienced players.

    You say the Epiphone Les Paul is better than a strat so you were obvioulsy looking for the les paul sound. Why criticize a Strat for not sounding like a Les Paul. The Stratocaster delivers "strat:" sounds. You can replace the pickups for a more beefed up sound but then you run the risk of losing those unique fender tones. People who buy fenders do so because they like the neck feel, the added string tension in the longer neck, the no nonsense robustness and the sparkling tones. If you want a guitar that sounds like a Les Paul....well buy a Les Paul in the first place!
