This book is a breakthrough in understanding (and one day reproducing) the biomechanics that good riders have. Expanding on the 'Classical' riding position that you will see in practice at places like the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Mary is able to break down all of the physical components into digestible bite-size chunks.
Because a lot of these biomechanical processes are not conscious to talented riders they have been omitted from most, if not all, horsey literature - so a lot of riders may be a little reluctant to get out of their comfort zone. When you first start riding this way it's pretty much guaranteed to feel weird. But if you persevere (and possibly find a Ride With Your Mind coach to help give you feedback), you will be delighted with the results.
Don't expect this to be a quick fix - this is a riding philosophy that needs to be fully understood to enjoy and reap the rewards. It will take time, think of it like a journey - don't rush it, stick with it, perhaps keep a diary to record your progress. The new book Ride With Your Mind Masterclass would be the logical progression - and may be valuable to have both as the 2nd book uses real people (including the talented Heather Blitz) to show Ride With Your Mind working at different levels from happy hackers to Grand Prix dressage riders.
