Good Points

The price is the major good point, and the fact they are built to the same drawings as Fender Strat's, which I have owned previously. There is very little between the Fender and the Squier, which makes it the best value guitar you can buy on a budget. I have seen some cheap and nasty copy guitars that look great, but cannot produce that genuine Fender sound, and are unplayable.

Bad Points

I bought my last one from Toys'R'Us in Bristol, the full kit, amp, strap, lead, picks, tuition DVD, for £109, in April 2008. Unfortunately, the build quality was not good, the scratchplate was sitting high over the top pickup screw, and there was a piece of wire coming out of the scratchplate from the top pickup slot. But to their merit, Toy'sR'Us replaced the guitar with a brand new one, which I checked over thoroughly (I am a Quality Inspector in the aircraft industry), and it was flawless, like the first Squier I bought.

General Comments

Having owned many guitars in the last 24 years, by Tokai, Fender, Charvel/Jackson, Aria, and Squier, I can vouch for the Squier Strat. Have a good look at the alignment of the screws, pickups, and scratchplate, as in any manufacturing factory, a few poorly built examples slip through the net. I am sure Leo Fender would be glad to see so many people enjoying the pleasure of his designs, especially on a limited budget.
