Entertainment was very good for the kids - my 3 year old loved every minute. The swimming complex was very good indeed and we went first thing every morning before it got crowded.
The accommodation was rank! We went Gold standard - I hate to think what silver was like. The bedroom stank of - well I hate to think what it stank of and my skin crawled when I lay in the bed. The rooms were cramped and poor. The oven was an antique and the noise of revellers late at night kept us awake.
The accommodation blighted the holiday - it is the main thing I remember. I know the entertainment was very good and my tot had a brilliant time, but the stress from lack of sleep due to the bed and the noise over-rode everything else.
Maybe Butlins should think about having accommodation for parents with small children in quieter areas away from the main facilities - while Gold Standard had the benefit of being close to the Skyline pavilion. When you are kept awake until 2-3am and your child wakes at 6am, it doesn't make for a good holiday.
