KevL's review of Laney R4 Combo

“Very happy. Bought the Laney R4 Combo second hand and,...”

★★★★☆

Good Points
Loads of features. I like the sound personally, but then I'm not trying to make a statement with the bass, and, as we're playing a mix of covers and own stuff I need to be able to cover a lot of sound styles. Easy controls and great to have switchable horn and compressor.

Bad Points
Heavy for its size - if that makes any sense. Could definitely do with wheels (retractable? to make it stackable on an ext. cab) or roadies. Probably not for the Smartcar driver.

General Comments
Very happy. Bought the Laney R4 Combo second hand and, other than a noisy gain pot - easily fixed - no problems. Have never used the external speaker facility but have heard (from others) it really fills the room. I suppose tho' that depends on the size of the room. Use an inexpensive Wesley Monarch bass through it and it makes it sound like a very expensive guitar - which is good because, for a hundred quid or so I got lucky and got a guitar I love to play! What more could you ask? I'd recommend it to anyone.
