General Comments

I've driven 175000 miles in my '01 tdci Ford Mondeo; it € s a great car to drive, pulls like a train out of roundabouts and handles ridiculously easily. It € s comfy for five adults and loads of luggage, it € s quite economical, but not staggeringly so. It has been cheap-ish to run; I did about the same mileage on a Mk2 1.8TD Mondeo which was REALLY cheap to run! I've had a few probs, but nothing major yet. The repairs so far are as follows: Handbrake cable - handbrake would stick on due to corrosion inside cable. £35. Rear subframe bushes £200 (didn € t change subframe, got local garage to fit eBay sourced bushes, then had car lined up by specialist garage to stop tyres wearing unevenly, it was better than frauds quote by two thirds.) Front springs £180 (pair - speed humps) Front anti-roll bar links £40 - cheap as chips and easy to fit. Alternator £155 (aftermarket job, half frauds price). Front disks and all pads. £100. Exhaust rear section - made one to fit as original is one piece and horrendously expensive. Starter motor £115 - recent job and heralds the start of the DMF demise. Rear anti roll bar links are needed and look as cheap and easy as the front. Apart from that all I've done is give it a regular dose of oil and filters. It drives as well now as it did when I bought it but I expect a £500+ repair bill when my DMF finally gives up the ghost and takes the clutch with it. Hopefully I'll then get to 200,000 miles without further incident. I would like to change it for another one, but I've read so much about the unreliability of the tdci engines that I'm getting twitchy and may go for a Passat instead.
