The main reason I bought this to replace my old HP Office jet was for automatic duplex and to print on card stock and labels. The MP830 does this well.
The fax software is poor in my opinion compared to the HP. I cannot queue faxes, I have to wait for each one to finish. Also there is no fax log, so if a fax fails it has to be started again from the beginning. Also there is no record of what was faxed. The "reports" that are printed are quite useless.
I am not happy that I paid twice as much for this printer as my old one only to lose capability that I took for granted. The moral for me is to test ALL capabilities within the 30-day trial period, not just the ones that were considered substandard in the old machine.
As to cartridges, I found a source where you can by the ink tanks without the chip very cheaply and transfer the chip from the old tank to the new one, but I haven't tried it yet.
