Endless items for sale from both business sellers and private sellers (both new and used items).
Ebay is also a great way of getting rid of your unwanted items but be aware of the ever increasing listing fees, commission and paypal fees.
You can also look at a number of the same thing to compare prices on the buy-it-now or take your chance in the online auctions.
The other good thing for buying off ebay is that you can check the sellers feedback to see if they are genuine and honest before placing any bids for your own protection.
Bad Points
The listing fees, commissions and paypal fees are getting higher all the time making it less worth while selling your unwanted items.
A high quantity of fake goods for sale.
A long dispute process for getting a refund if you don't get your item or it is not as described.
A lot of fraud carried out on ebay from buyers registered with accounts abroad.
You never know what you are exactly getting for your money or if it is genuine until it arrives on your door step.
General Comments
We have had an ebay account since 2001 and in that time we have had some great buys and sold a lot of unwanted items, but unfortunately it is getting more and more expensive to sell on ebay and the paypal fees are now getting extortionate so you have to work out if it is worth selling on ebay to start with - we are selling less then other.
The other thing to note with ebay is that you are dealing with individuals and business's that you don't now or how reputable they are so you have to be cautious and check there feedback before buying from them. We would also advise anyone opening an ebay account to also open a paypal account so that you have some protection when buying items off ebay through paypal.
If you are selling an item on ebay do a search for that item and also check auctions that have ended so that you can work out the best category to place them in and the best way of describing them in your listing.
Also when buying off ebay read the small print in the listings as a lot of the business's selling on ebay will charge you 17.5% VAT on the final sale price and also take into account the postage and packaging before placing a bid as a lot of buyers start off with a very low first bid but a very high postage and packaging charge.
All in all ebay is a good fun way of buying and selling but with the increasing fees it is making it harder for individuals to sell there items and more of a market place for online business's to sell so sometimes you can buy items new for less from online shops then you can through ebay.
