General Comments

DON'T BUY ONE!! I bought a 26" LCD/DVD combination back in 2005 from Leekes in Cross Hands, Ammanford, South Wales. No warranty purchased though at the time. Salesman not sure about reliability but reassured us that was a quality make. Attracted by integral DVD player as it was to be a 2nd TV for bedroom. Had difficulty obtaining wall bracket but found one and had improvise brackets and fixings. No problem though and TV worked a treat until early 2008. Then only the red dot would flash & could not get TV to operate at all. Approached Leekes as under Sales and Supply of Goods Act if the consumer is able to prove that the merchandise is not of a durable quality or ever was going to be from point of purchase then they are obliged to offer a repair or replacement.
An independent LCD TV repair specialist in our area confirmed that the set has multi surface defects, the inventor board is defunct. The faults are unacceptable for a product of that age and the set is not economically viable to repair i.e. it would cost too much. Leekes are arguing that in order for them to consider the matter further, the fault should be proven to have been "inherent" and one only has up to 6 months from the date of purchase to claim(but under the S&SG Act you can log a claim within 6 years????). We take the view that the set was faulty from the start and are pursuing with our claim for refund or replacement. May end up in the County Court. Hope that this helps anyone with similar problems but in future when buying TV's stick to well known and reputable brands like the top names and best to purchase a warranty with it (but check small print first to ensure that it is not a pay and reclaim policy).

Regards,

Taz
