Bad Points

Call centres in India who cannot answer a simple question in less than half an hour.


General Comments

My husband applied for a HSBC MAstercard for both of us as it had a )5 interest rate. He received a letter asking him to Phone them which he did. He was on the phone for 30 minutes and all they wanted was to see a copy of his last pay slip...fair enough we had this faxed from our local branch. Then we waited over a week for his card to arrive. There was no card for me so he phoned again. This resulted in us receiving a form. We filled this in and returned it. He then got another letter asking him to phone them. This time they were just checking that he had signed the form asking for a card for me. 10 days later my card arrived. Over 10 days after receiving my card I still have no PIN number and my card is refused when I try to make an internet or phone purchase. I phoned HSBC but they will only speak to my husband about the account. He rang and the customer service advisor who had trouble understanding him. After another lengthy and costly conversation he succeeded in setting up internet banking...which we didn't want. My card is still being refused and I have to wait to see if I will ever get a PIN.
He will probably have to brave phoning again next week.

I would advise against applying for an HSBC credit card however attractive the offer , unless you thrive on stress. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired and , while I understand the need for security, why should it take over half an hour to ask for a PIN number?
