Polyphonic ring tones sound dated

General Comments

Many phones seem to be a digital camera which happen to make calls but this Nokia 6220 is a proper mobile phone which happens to have a camera. All the usual Nokia user friendliness is there and moving about menus is easy though the main selection button in the top left is quite tricky to press and I often press the green call button instead which has no effect.

It does all the stuff phones do nowadays, camera, photo wallpaper, screensavers, polyphonic ring tones, scheduler etc but the feature which stands out is the video and sound functions. You can video short video clips (about 20 secs each) with sound onto the phone. This is a handy feature but is sadly let down a bit by the poor screen and poor sound quality. Also its possible to record audio in 1 minute sections and use it as a ring tone. This looked great but to record them loud enough to function as a ringtone means a severe problem with the quality of the sound as its only really meant for voice.

Overall im very happy with my phone, the next model of this (the 6230) will be an amazing phone but may be quite expensive so if you want that phone with more basic features then this is the one for you.

Just an update to the review really after having more time using the phone. The voice isn't too quiet, that was a problem with the other persons mobile who I was speaking too! It's very loud. Only small probs are when you select a new picture for the background wallpaper it defaults to turning the wallpaper off so you have to go through the menus and turn it back on. Also the games seem to be severely lacking in sound, I expected better sounds from polyphonic. Also in the goto list which is a list of regularly used features it keeps putting subscribed names in there even though I keep turning it off! And lastly there was a bit of interference when talking using the supplied headset. Apart from those small probs its a great phone.

I've had my 6220 for about a week now, and the first thing I noticed was the Subscribed Names shortcut keeps popping up on the "Go To" menu even after I've deleted it. Do you think there is a software upgrade to solve the problem?

Also, I noticed that the screen (with the default brightness setting) isn't as bright as the other Nokia phones like the 6610, 7250, and the 3100. The screen definitely lacks brightness.

For the record, my 6220 is made in Hungary. Software Version a4.08 Nov 03, 2003.

always Nokia is the best... I love this new 6220. this also dosen't have bluetooth and MP3, and the screen resolution is not very good, but, the features and the shape is great. the camera is really good quality, but looks a bit dull in this screen, when you download it into a computer the quality is good.

there are not any better games loaded with the phone, but can be downloaded. the Radio is really very nice and the head-set given with the phone is really really best quality. the organiser is very useful. I really like this phone very much,

I have had my Nokia 6220 since 11.6.04 and have been quite satisfied with it. I have listed the positive and negative points below:
    POSITIVE
    1. Extensive organiser/calender/scheduler - I do not use my digital diary any more. THIS BENIFITS ME THE MOST.
    2. Mobile phone and battery are both made in Hungary. Battery life is very very good - possibly as it is new! [Please do not use batteries made in China]. Mobile phone sets sold in India are mostly assembled in China or without indications as to country of manufacture.
    3. Ring Tones provided are quite good - though more could have been loaded.
    4. Security Keypad - Excellent feature.
    5. FM radio - a nice feature, though one has to use the headset to tune in.
    6. Camera - good feature, however should have had a normal [2x] zoom.
    NEGATIVE
    1. I too have the problem wherein 'Subscribed Names' pops back in the 'Go To' options even after being deleted.
    2. Wallpapers provided are not up to quality - better images could have been loaded.
    3. Cannot record music to be used as tones - recording not clear.
    4. I miss the SMS message counter which was available in the Nokia 3530.

Otherwise nothing much to complain about - after all it is a Nokia product. I constantly browse the Nokia website and have noted that Nokia will shortly launch the 6630 - Oh Boy! Am I waiting to get that mobile?
