The Customer Service department has always been easy to reach and friendly enough to deal with. Of the banks I deal with online, they were the first to upgrade security and they have done a great job with the new website .
Very uncompetitive with their interest. Make you feel like a criminal if you have to telephone because you forgot a password. (It is perhaps also worth mentioning that you can easily get through to their helpdesk using the freephone number they asked you to call when you first opened your account, rather than paying to use the number they give on the website)
I think the amount of complaints about ING Direct's poor rates says it all. I also don't like the way they entice people with their "high interest ISA", only to reveal that the high rate only lasts for the first six months, after which time it drops way below other banks'. ING say this "averages out" to a competitive 6%... so why not just offer 6%? I haven't yet subscribed to my Cash ISA for the current tax year and, having read what I have about ING today, I think I can say for certain that I won't be saving with them! I will be looking at HSBC/Abbey/Sainsbury's etc first.
