I have a classic race bike - a Suzuki Katana which was manufactured in 1988 and first registered in 2002. This bike has an agreed value of £10,000 and is not used on the road except at shows thus does less than 100 miles per year.
During the winter my policy lapsed and when two months later I asked the poiicy to be renewed I was told that it would have to be treated as new business and as it had been modified (what classic racer hasn't) they could no longer insure it. I asked why this was the case as it had been insured with them previously and no nothing had changed eg driving offences or accidents.
When I asked if the could phone the underwriter (who I know to be a Lloyds) to see what cold be done taking in to consideration that I was previously insured by them and have no claims and a clean licence for over 15 years.
On classic motor cycle there is no provision for a no claims bonus and having the been with Footman James for two years the over 6 years no claims bonus I had earned with my previous insurer is invalid. Thus I now have to start with another insurer with zero no claims bonus!!!!
I the past I have had three bikes on the same policy and have enjoyed a discount, unlimited milage being a member of the Suzuki owners club.
