Good Points

A wonderful riding experience with the capability to create just the bike you want as the options for improving/modifying/tinkering are endless! Running costs (after the initial purchase cost!) are extremely reasonable. Fuel consumption is a revelation - 55mpg at a steady 85 - 90mph on the motorway. Tyres last for 7-8000 miles rear & 11000 miles front - even with spirited use - but please see comments below!
Service interval is 5000 miles & is easy to complete yourself.


Bad Points

The ride & handling definately benefits by replacing the stock rear shockers. I would recommend Hagons. Fully shrouded stainless, classic shocks, 2.5 inches over stock. The improvement in ride quality & comfort is really noticable.
The original Dunlop tyres last well but the handling can be 'dubious' - Avons or Bridgestones provide a far more reassuring riding experience.
Build quality is bit iffy in some areas - particularly cheap, nasty fasteners & thin/flaking paint on the exposed areas of the mudguards.
The cost of Harley aftermarket parts & accessories in the UK is ridiculous but there are a number of cheaper alternatives - used parts on e bay, buy direct from the USA (usually 50% + cheaper) etc.
Servicing at Harley dealerships is also expensive but visiting the dealers is generally a pleasant (but costly!) experience.


General Comments

This is the kind of bike you just want to get on & ride (I covered 800 miles last weekend!). It also has an almost magical ability to chill you out & put a smile on your face. It is not a sports bike but is perfectly capable of covering long distances, in comfort at 'real world' speeds. If you want to travel the Queens highway at speeds of 100mph + all the time - buy something else.
If looked after a Harley Dyna Glide should be totally reliable (a friends Night Train has 95000 + miles on the clock & has never let him down) & you will have the added benefit of solid residual values. Personally, I don't care about residual values as I never intend to sell it!
