The Pings are a good run of the mill wedges, they do exactly as they say on the tin, easy to hit, high ball flight, accurate and have good feel. They also won't cost you the equivalent of a years fees in Pro vs a year. Traded in two vokeys a 56 and a 60 as I needed more of a gap and a lob as I had just purchased a set of Titleist AP1s and the wedge on the titleists is 45 degrees and 11 degrees of a gap is way to much. So, plan was replace the vokeys with a 52 and a 58, however I saw these and just liked the look and feel. Used them for the first time last night, went down to my club late on and hit maybe 50 or 60 shots from varying lies and difficulties. The 58/08 will lift anything, rough, fairway, over bunkers, out of bunkers, absolutely faultless, the 52/12 does exactly as you would expect, more forgiving and accurate than the vokeys, which in my opinion are grossly overrated. I play off 5 and lost count the amount of times I knifed a vokey from a tight lie only to see it fly at 5 feet over the green into trouble. The spin appears not to be as much as the vokeys I admit although I was playing on to dry fast greens, however is ball shredding spin a real advantage, 10 feet of spin aint good if you only clear the hazard by 8 feet. I have read reviews about these maximum limit wedges, callaway, cleveland etc, etc and if you want to destroy a pro v every nine holes, to put in another way, a fiver a round and if you playing twice a week thats an extra £500 a year, not accounting for miss hits and losses, if thats your style then feel free to carry on. I use the new TP preferred balls and my old vokeys were destroying them, absolutely unplayable after a round. So be warned. Won't spin as much as a vokey. Not as fashinable as the vokey, but the Callaway Mack Daddys are going to be the new kids on the block anyway, although the MDs are in the bargain bins already, seen a 52, 56 and a 60 at the weekend for £120, tells a story, they just destroy premium balls.
