Good Price, Good Features, Fast Processor
Prone to Overheating, No Serial Port, No PCMCIA Port
Have had my Advent 7012 Laptop for just over a year now and it's still working well. My biggest complaint about the machine is that it is prone to overheating - the fan being on the bottom can result in insufficient cooling leading to the machine shutting down without warning. This is certainly the case if it is on your lap (!) but also sometimes happens when the pc is on a desk (especially when using lots of processing power). Have found that sitting a book under each rear corner to let the air circulate around the fan helps but not really the ideal situation!!!
The lack of a PCMCIA port is a problem at times and in common with most modern laptops there is no serial port. The 2 USB's and the Firewire socket do come in handy though!
All in all, the 7012 is a reasonable machine, once you figure out how to circumnavigate the cooling problems!
