Ok, after 16,000 miles and 2.75 years heres the full breakdown of how much it cost to run my excellent Honda SH125. I have included the cost buying new, less todays part exchange value plus all fuel, dealer servicing, spares, tax and insurance. The total (net) cost of owning and running the bike was £3,040 which works out at 19 pence per mile. It averaged 105 mpg, with dealer services every 2,500 miles costing about £100, and I insured it fully comp (so, a thrifty owner could shave costs in places). Ive loved (almost) every mile, occasionally wished for more on a motorway, and have done some worthy journeys including a round Scotland trip (from Southampton) over 5 days and several day trips of over 200 miles. I ride all year using heated gloves sometimes and notice how the warm radiator air swirls round your knees and feet helping those 22 mile winter commutes. The electrics have been strong and the alternator has a healthy output for such a small engine. The handling and brakes are excellent, but suspension limited, so avoid potholes. The only mechanical problem was a fuel gauge fixed under warrantee and then 2 punctures. A screen (cut down to size) made a big difference to comfort at the expense of a little claustrophobia. The engine is very smooth and goes so well for a 125, though is not the quietest. Id recommend this scooter very strongly and am now upgrading (I hope) to a SH300i.
