Holguin, Playa Pesquero Review

From the moment we landed in Cuba until such time it was a distant spec as we flew away our holiday was absolutely fabulous. Playa Pasquero for us was absolutely perfect in every conceivable way. The accommodation, the service, the staff, and even the food which quite frankly there was an abundance of. The beach was gorgeous and never a problem with chairs. Check in and out was speedy and efficient. For such a large resort we felt that the grounds were perfectly kept and quite beautiful. The pool is large and refreshing. Our favorite restaurant for luncheons was the Grill, however we often found the Beer Garden nice for something a bit lighter.
We took a day excursion on a catamaran to the marina. On the way we snorkelled and it was great fun with many fish to see. The second half of the day was spent swimming with dolphins. A fantastic experience and we enjoyed the day immensely as we both love to be on the water and we found it broke up the time a bit and gave us a real highlight.
The staff are kind and thoughtful, I never felt that I should tip but I did quite often. I found that by giving small gifts, even as small as a piece of chewing gum was treasured by the staff and they were gracious and humble in their pleased acceptance of such an offering. The bad points for me were reading the negative reviews of this wonderful Cuban resort before we left. We must remember this is an extremely poor country, it is not the UK and it is not Canada. Of course things will be different. The food will be different and the standard different. For what they have and how they live after such time they leave their valued jobs at these luxury resorts I think of these people serving us so graciously. I would advise people to research their resorts, but please take the comments to be personal likes and dislikes. I sat in a restaurant next to a woman who brought a can of baby food with her... she had done nothing but complain throughout her meal, then complained they had not heated the food for the child enough. This type of behavior should not reflect on the quality of an entire resort. Perspective should be maintained. In general I can't wait to return to Cuba, on my next trip I hope to visit the City of Holquin more often to feel the culture of the people. Hola... have a wonderful holiday ....
