Window quality is good (Installed only 3 months ago, so far well)
Strange discount situation in my case.
I have ordered 8 windows and 2 doors with Anglian Windows thinking that they are the best in UK, in quality and service. I have made the appointment through internet and got £150 discount voucher which says can be redeemed when you give the order at the ordering point (this £150 will come off from the total price). The sales men gave me a price of £7000. I had a quote for £3300 from a local window company which is also a reputed one; I told him this and decided not to buy from anglian. So the salesman started to do some more calculation for the next 5 minutes and came up with a price of £5000. Still I was not happy, so he again done some more calculation and came up with £4000. Until this point, I didn't tell him that I had a gift coupon for £150. Then I thought even though I have to pay some extra (4000-3300), I will go for it, because I thought Anglian's quality and service is the best in UK. At this point I told him that I have a gift coupon for £150, and then he told me that, I have to send it to anglian's head office to redeem it and the HO will send me a cheque for that. Then when I asked about the payment, he said it is through finance from GE Money, if I want to pay cash then the price will be £5000 instead of £4000 (?). He told me that I don't need to pay for the next 4 months; the instalment will start after 4 months from installation. I said I don't want to pay any interest as the interest will be high. Then he told us that if I pay the whole amount, ie, £4000 before the first instalment starts, even a day before the first instalment, I don't need to pay a single penny. I told him I need it to be installed before Christmas and he has agreed to this. So I signed the order form.
After the survey, anglian told me that it won't be installed before Christmas, so I cancelled the order by writing to them, as I was told by them. After few days of sending the cancellation letter I talked their customer support and confirmed they got the cancellation letter. They said it is cancelled and they have passed the information to their local office. When the local office got the cancellation information from their HO, they suddenly called me and said, I cannot cancel as it is over 7 days and If I want to cancel pay them £2500 cancellation fee (very small amount). When I refused it, they said they are a big company and they will go to court and the cancellation fee and court expenses will be a huge amount which I won't be able to pay. I was afraid and agreed to proceed with the order.
Then they said they won't be able to install it before Christmas, it will be during the first week of January. In the first week they said it will be in the 2nd week of January. Then they came in the 2nd week and told me that it will take 2 days to finish the fitting. I took 2 days off from my work, and at the end of the 2nd day they told me that they haven't got one door and one window supplied to the fitters and they don't know when it is going to be. Then after two weeks they said they are coming to install the balance (1 door and 1 window). Again I took 1 day off from work, and found that they brought the door which is completely different from what I have ordered. Also they haven't got the window again. At this end moment the fitters also made a discovery that the window which I have ordered is of a particular size and I won't be able to get it. They also suggested me to have some alterations in the window, so that they will be able to fit it the next day. Any way, as I was fed up with them I have agreed to fit the door, which is a different one, and the window with some alterations.
During these days, I was sorting out the £150 gift coupon with their HO. Before sending it to the HO as I was told by the salesman, I spoke to the HO and they told me that, I cannot send it to HO as it was meant to me redeemed at the time of order. I told them that I have shown this to your salesman and he asked me to send it HO. Then they asked us to talk to the salesman, luckily I had his phone number. So I chased him, and at last got hold of him. He again told me to send it to HO. Anyway I sent that to HO and waited for their reply.
After the installation, the fitters asked me to sign the paperwork, and then I told them that I am not going to sign until my gift coupon is sorted out and give me a compensation for changing one of my window and door. This raised the alarm for the local office who was keeping quiet about all these issues. Then they offered me a very tiny discount for changing my window and argued that the door is same what I have ordered. When I proved them from the survey sheet, they had to agree and said this is a better quality door. If I still want the same door which I have order I have to wait another couple of weeks. So I agreed to take the door. And regarding the gift coupon they began to say that it is already adjusted in the price, ie, the £4000 price I got is after deducting £150. I argued them this is not the price. At last, as they have no option, they need my signature to say the installation is finalised, they asked the fitters to change the price in the finalisation note to £3850 by hand and get my signature.
The storey doesn't end here. After few days they send me the paper work for finance, which to my surprise showed the full price £4000, again, with out the gift coupon discount. I send the paper work back with out signing them. Then at last as they need my signature for the finance people, they send me a cheque for £150 to settle the matter.
The storey doesn't end here either. As I was told by the salesman that I don't need to pay even a single penny extra if I pay them before my instalment is due, I contacted the finance people (GE Money) to settle the matter after one month. So I have to pay £4000 according to what the salesman told me. But to my surprise, they asked me to pay £5900. That was a big blow to my head. I asked them why this is, they said, £95 admin charge, £680 insurance, plus early repayment charges, plus interest @ 22% apr. Can anybody imagine what my position then was? I was ready to pay the whole amount as soon as the installation was over, and now I have to pay £1900 extra. I told them that this is not at all fair as these things were not explained to me by the salesman; they said that is not their problem as we have signed the credit agreement.
