General Comments
I have been working in Administration for almost 5 years, and was really fed up at work, I earn £14500 per year and thought that I could get a better paying job, with more responsibility. I had been past the local branch of Office Angels on a daily basis, as I work close by, one particular morning, I happened to notice that they were advertising for a customer service administrator paying £16800, so I thought, I will look them up and find out more about it.
First of all I went onto their website, I have to say, its not the easiest of sites to work your way round, I could not find anything about the job advertised in the window, so registered on line and submitted my CV.
The next morning, I received a phone call, asking me to go in and register (hadn't I already done this on the web), an appointment was made for the following Tuesday, I was advised that I need to take ID with me, not a problem, as I have nothing to hide.
My appointment was for 12.00. Now I have to say that this is purely my personal account of what happened, and is only here for you to base your own opinion on.
I arrived at the branch at 11.50, armed with my passport, I was initially met by a really professional woman on the reception desk, who sat me down, gave me some forms to complete, and took me through the forms, explaining what was needed and why, I thought wow, this woman is good, I hope that she is my consultant.
After wading my way through the paperwork 15 minutes, I was escorted to a room at the back of the office, and told I was to complete some tests, OK I thought, perhaps they want to test my skills for the job that I had inquired about.
I was given a copy typing test, now I may be a lot of things, but a secretary I am not. But hey, it shows that i can work my way round a computer.
I completed the tests, and sat there, 20 minutes passed and another woman, stuck her head in looked me up and down and walked away, (Hey I have pulled), I sat for another 5 or 10 minutes, thinking they will come and get me. In the end, I was so bored, that I walked out of the small room into the main office. Where I was confronted by a consultant from hell. She stood up and stared at me, saying "SIT OVER THERE" and pointed to a seat in the window, (now you will remember, I work close by), I was not happy to sit in the window, as my boss would possibly see me, and he always walks past this way on his lunch break, I asked if I could sit in one of the booths, to which this woman said "No, thats for candidate interviews", and what exactly was I.
Anyway, I reluctantly sat in the window seat, and patiently waited, while keeping an eye out for my boss.
20 minutes had passed, and this same woman, came up to me and asked my forms, and walked away, she walked back to her desk, and had a conversation with another consultant.
At this point I pointed out to the receptionist that I could hear them talking about me, and was less than happy with what they were saying. The receptionist, reassured me by saying "Alison has over 10 years experience and is probably talking about a different candidate"
The blonde haired women came over, and said that the red haired women would be 5 minutes.
The red haired women came over, in fairness it was only about 5 minutes, explained to me that I had passed the tests, I actually only did one, but that she was too busy to see me now, and could I call her tomorrow to make an appointment, I explained to her that I had in actual fact made an appointment, and that this was it.
You will be amazed by this.
The red haired women "I know who you are and why you are hear", called over blonde women, who then said "we are fully aware of you and what you are doing, go back and tell black haired women, that her sily little antics are quite childish, and that she should go and find her own jobs"
As Im sure you can imagine, I was dumbfounded by this, I asked for my forms back, to which blonde women said "No, just get out and run along to black haired women".
I was seething, so left.
I walked down the road, and went into a different agency, Brook Street, and told them what I had just experienced, the lady that was dealing with me in this agency, was embarrassed by what had happened in Office Angels, and told me that the lady they were referring to, Cthe black haired women, was the owner of Classic recruitment, and pointed me in their direction.
My next stop was to go into Classic, success, I managed to speak to the black haired women, very professional, helpful and appauled by the behaviour of Office Angels, she advised me that I should write to their head office, and air my concerns.
To summarise,
Agencies that are good in Portsmouth.
Classic and Brook Street
Agencies that are bead in Portsmouth
