Personal Banking service very nice for those who can afford lots of money in their accounts.
My own local branch when it was open was fantastically friendly
Bad Points
Not being able to speak to who I want too when I want too!
My local branch down the road is now closed.
One big niggle I have with is why do they always try to sell you something when you phone up to pay a bill? I recall weeks after I inherited large sum of money, being offered a loan! I actually asked the HSBC rep if they preferred MY rates as they would had been more preferential.
General Comments
Some years ago I inherited money and I became a golden egg for HSBC. I'm now looked after or so HSBC think but that really is not the case. I have a 'relationship manager' who presumably will sort out all of my marriage problems if I asked him. As of yet I've only asked him to help me out with an HSBC problem however there's always time.
I find the fact that I have become supposedly more important annoying because every customer should be important - shouldn't they? Not at most banks it seems.
But the facts are I feel important sometimes but at other times feel frustrated and do not feel I get that extra service I supposedly should be getting.
Maybe HSBC should look into their Premier Service as it does not work for me.

on 15th May 2008You miss my point Mac,
Shouldn't all customers be treated with equal respect no matter how much money they have in their account?
I can understand the inequality between differing organisations because that is why you shop around to try and find the best deal and best service. But then you have banks and building societies prepared to create a 'them and us' system such as HSBC.
If a client has an issue which means they need to speak to the manager then they should have access to that manager whether or not they have a 'special' account. I had an for instance where I was spoken to like dirt when I was thought of as just a mere customer but now I'm a considered worthy rich picking, they can't stop falling over me. If my husband wasn't so stubborn I'd be off!

I find it hard to work out if you are annoyed that you receive preferential treatment or you are annoyed that you don't!
Either way it should be easily solved. Tell your bank you do not wish all their extra services and attention, or let them know that a little bit more 'sucking up' would be good.
It's such a nice problem to have.
