Saga used to be very acceptable until Roger De Haan sold out, but its brochures descriptions have always been somewhat poetic and, in my many experiences and others, used and still does use remote hotels. They usually look after those who need help quite well, but rarely allow flexibility for those of us who like to use their excellent hotel and flight deals but who wish to be free, and not treated as a member of a school party. I have been on many Saga tours, and they were mainly excellent apart from the sometimes (according to the rep) imposed Saga school rules: being told to move around the coach in a clockwise direction by two seats is traumatic, and particularly if one is on a singles holiday and gets stuck with someone incompatible - but Saga won't listen to reason. Saga is good for teachers and social workers, working and retired, who love rules, but you will be told off if you don't conform. Such a shame, as Saga looks after those who need help, but doesn't often provide flexibility for those of us who don't (yet), and who seek only to use their excellent hotel and flight deals and can look after ourselves. The reps tell you off if you don't conform, as will the other clients in the school party who like rules. Do please avoid the singles holidays, as they are in my experience and the Saga reps I have spoken to, almost always dreadful.
