Good value with a wide range of choice.
Don't expect the buying process to be enjoyable.
Just bought a diesel Ford Focus C-Max from Car Giant in London.
I have visited their site prior to previous car purchases, primarily to get an idea of whats available and shapes and sizes, but had never found the right car. This time with my brief a little wider (a decent size diesel) I found one at a price that I couldn't find cheaper anywhere else (some consumer reviews suggest that Car Giant is on average 3% cheaper than list prices).
I found the buying process to be quite quick I went late on a weeknight to view the car and put down a 200 deposit, which took about 30 mins from start to finish. Then I picked up the car 2 days later - again a weeknight around 7pm.
I was told when I put down the deposit that the process of paying the balance and collecting the car would take 40 minutes. In my case it took less than this - around 30. Its a production-line approach first you speak with an advisor who goes through all of the paper work. Then you wait until your number is called by a cashier. Finally you go and get the keys from another desk.
If you go in there expecting to be treated like royalty you will be disappointed. They have a high turnover of cars and dont mess around with too many pleasantries. This was actually to my preference. Of course they will try to sell you finance and they will try to get you to take out a warranty. It was my preference not to take either and I only had to say no twice without any more pressure!
None of their cars come with tax and only have 5 litres of petrol/diesel in the tank. Also might in some cases add on 91 to all cars as an admin fee, but with cars being such costly investments the extra 91 is hardly noticed.
I was surprised that the car wasnt cleaned again before picking it up it had sat outside for a week or two since arriving at Car Giant, so it appears that they only clean the cars after arrival.
Its obviously too early to comment on the reliability of the car itself, but it has got through the first week without anything going wrong!
As long as you remember that YOU are in charge you could get yourself a good value car.
