Low price- I got mine for $310 AU
Super accurate and easy to use
Relatively quiet
Good killing power
Cocking action and breach loading are a little slower for your follow up shot, particularly when hunting- but it's a worthwhile trade off.
The trigger was initially a bit stiff as is routinely reported, but it has loosened up a lot, and is now quite good. I haven't had any need to adjust it.
Some may find it a little heavy when walking around with it on a hunt
Can't attach a sling to it due to the cocking system (this is no big deal for me though).
I live on 45 acres, and have a problem with rabbits and hares coming into the garden during the night. A normal gun is too loud, and I didn't want to risk stray shots going into the neighbours houses. Based on the excellent reviews of the CFX, I made my purchase in .177.
I haven't been disappointed. The CFX has proven to be ideal for both plinking and hunting. Since I am primarily hunting rabbits and hares, I opted for a red dot scope from Vector Optics on a cantilever mount. Not only does it look great, but it has stayed rock solid and hasn't lost it's zero in over a couple of thousand rounds. I picked it up on Ebay for $40US which was a bargain.
I initially tried to get a Leapers Scope imported, but it was expensive by comparison, and a lot of stuffing about.
Insofar as the accuracy and ammunition are concerned, I have learnt a couple of lessons. The Gamo ammunition I bought, specifically the Match and Pro Magnum rounds, were noticeably poorer in quality and accuracy than the Beeman ammunition that I tried, namely the H&N Match, and the Beeman FTS.
At 25 metres, I could get a fairly tight group with the Gamo ammunition, but at longer distances, it was a bit hit and miss. Similarly, the level of penetration of soup tins at 30-40 metres was also noticeably lacking (tiny holes, or only dents).
Based on advice I found on the web, I went for the slightly heavier ammunition from Beemans, and it made a huge difference. I can get 5 shots in a half inch group at 25 metres with the H&N match, and the FTS is within an inch (even in a breeze). The FTS ammo can punch a pen sized hole in a soup tin at 35 metres, and the accuracy of the ammunition at higher ranges is significantly better. I can easily hit a 125gm tin at 35 metres, and a normal tin at 45 metres. Given that I have an unmagnified red dot scope, this really gives an indication of the CFX's accuracy. With the Beeman ammunition, I rarely miss at all.
Technique has a bit to do with it (and the loose method of holding the CFX delivers good results), but the Beeman ammo at twice the price of the Gamo ammo is certainly worth it (not to mention that the Beeman ammo doesn't leave lead all over your fingers like the cheaper Gamo).
All in all, I've found the rifle to be an excellent purchase, and more than capable of taking out small animals within the 25-45 metre range. If I had a telescopic sight, I have no doubt that higher levels of accuracy at greater ranges as reported elsewhere would be quite achieveable.
Throroughly recommended.
