General Comments

I have a 512k connection from Tiscali. I pay £27 a month for this connection. But in actuality I'm hardly ever getting more than 100k. At times when I have done a speed check on my connection I get as little as 7k! Yes that's right 7k! This is fraud no matter how you look at it and I have constantly raised the issue with Tiscali themselves. One of their callers did actually agree that it was fraud but did nothing to rectify my problem. This has been going on for 3 months now and the problem has still not been rectified. I have Xbox Live which I am not able to use because Tiscali cannot supply me with the 512k connection that I'm paying them for.
I have insisted that they release me from my contract so that I can move to another ISP that can provide what they advertise. Tiscali said that to do so I would have to email the cancellations department (which is apparently the normal procedure when canceling with Tiscali), so this is exactly what I did. I then got an automatic reply via email telling me that someone would be in touch within 5 working days to discuss the termination of my contract... 5 working days came & went with no contact from Tiscali. I emailed them again and I got another automated response telling me that someone would contact me within 10 working days... 10 working days came & went with no contact from Tiscali. I emailed them a third time and was told another 10 days... still no contact from Tiscali.
I have now made such a fuss about it that they finally gave me a telephone number of someone I could speak to reagarding the termination of my service even though I have not seen the initial 12 month contract out until the end. The way I see it is that Tiscali themselves have failed to hold up their end of the contract by charging me a broadband fee even though they often give me a service that is slower than a 56k modem!
Anyone thinking of making Tiscali their ISP should look elsewhere. Their customer service is ghastly & their product is a fraudulent product. Stay away!
