I purchased an 05 plate Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 TDCI just under a month ago. This began to make the same ticking noise as I ve read elsewhere which seems to disappear after the car has warmed up. I put it in for a service and was told the seal for the injector had went so I contacted my local dealership who informed me after inspecting the car that the full injector needed replacing. I was told this was covered under warranty which eased my worries as I was told from the garage that serviced the car that, to replace the injector could cost me between 400 - 500.
However, when I put the car in I was told they never had the parts, it s been almost a week now and in the meantime I m having to drive around being subjected to the diesel fumes coming through the ventilation system from the leak and also not knowing if I m doing further damage to the car. This seems to be a common fault with this engine which worries me further as the warranty runs out shortly.
Another problem I ve experienced is a constant rattle which I found to be coming from the rear left hand passenger seat belt cover (next to the head rest). This is more of an annoyance than anything else and I ve read elsewhere that a solution to this is just to place a bit of masking tape over it to secure it, but should you really have to do this in modern cars?
The final issue is a crackling noise every so often when using the stereo system which I believe to be loose wiring - but I ve arranged to get this looked at when the car -eventually- goes back in for the injector to be replaced.
On the whole though, if I take away the injector fault and the other little niggles, I m quite pleased with the car. I ve not worked out the fuel consumption yet, but I m not keeping my expectations realistic as the claims of 70+ mpg seem to be misleading.

I know that some smaller cars offer a MPG in the region of 35 - 55. The Fiesta might offer a similar rating.

I found this review helpful because I've just podded out the best part of £500 quid having a service AND the fuel injector seals replaced!!!!
