Delivers a level of customization and immersion unmatched until the release of Mass Effect: easily the best installment of the Star Wars saga on any media - excellent characters and an engrossing plot.
Due to a critically lacking development time; this game is no where near its potential. It contains a large number of unnecessary plot holes and feels incomplete on several levels. The end is also unsatisfactory compared to the previous installment.
RPGs divide much of the gaming world: they are often seen as the quintessence of nerdiness in my opinion and are thus avoided by the majority of the population. The fact that this game is an RPG set in the Star Wars universe would immediately repulse most people - but even the smallest amount of patience in this case pays off. The rolling of dice and endless lists of rules of other RPGs are all but invisible here; the combat being controlled almost entirely automatically. The player can make changes; choose to alter the plan of attack; retreat or unleash an abundance of satisfying, visually striking force powers. The latter in particular is an excellent example of the level of choice available; there are several times more abilities available than any one person can ever acquire. Combined with the 18 combinations of unique character classes, total freedom of morality and an uncountable amount of dialogue open to adaptation and change - this makes KoTOR 2 among the most re-playable games ever made as far as I am concerned. It is essentially impossible for any two players to have the same experience; especially when one considers the wealth physical appearances available to the main character and a ludicrously large number of weapons, apparel and items. Even if this bountiful customization is unappealing to you; every spoken line in the game (excluding those of your own character who, while extremely talkative, remains inaudible to the player) is spoken aloud by a wide array of talented voice actors. At times it can be genuinely witty, and remains consistently enjoyable; especially after the acquisition of the legendary HK-47 and his misanthropic banter. Well worth the now greatly decreased cost (this game is now rather old); I fail to imagine anyone who could find this game un-enjoyable. Playable both on the original X-Box and the 360; I would recommend this to anyone with access to either - even owners of the vastly superior Mass Effect.
