I was booked on the Thomson flight due to depart on Sunday 6th April at 8:55pm with my wife, three year old son and one year old. On arrival we noted there was to be a delay which is expected from Thomson leaving Telaviv since this flight was started. (I may note we flew in the past on the Manchester route with a delay but only compliments on the trips as a whole.)
So to continue after arriving at the gate B1 for boarding I on my own tried to find out the reason for delay and expected time of it to no avail. There was no one with the slightest idea. It took an hour and a half for anyone to make an announcement. Please note not one apology at all no mention of Thomson. We had now been in the airport the better part of five hours, it was twelve at night and no sign of even drinks of water being offered to anyone.
Eventually we are informed that we would not be taking off on Sunday but for the moment there was no hotels available.
Using my initiative I suggested they separate the elderly and families with infants. They did, but only eventually wanted to cart us off to Ashkelon. I myself not a mere tourist, knew that this town is
nearly an hour away from Benm Gurion. Secondly as most people are aware it is in Gaza. I refused to go there on these valid grounds as well as my wife no wanting to travel that far. No sooner had this first group been shipped off I heard that all the singles were to go to the nearer Tel aviv Hilton. This seemed outrageous but we were getting used to these types of decisions by now. We were refused access to this hotel and so I duly made my own arrangements for a hotel in nearby Bnei Brak. We shared a taxi with friend there at a cost of 150 nis about £20 and arrived at 4:00 am ! about 15 minutes from Tel Aviv.
I later on Monday was told some families were sent to the nearby Carlton hotel in Tel Aviv, again I felt misled.
On Monday morning I was woken up with a phone call telling me our flight was due to depart at 9:00 pm! More than 24 hours later. We had to find lunch and occupy our kids the entire day. On a call later to check I was told the flight was at 10:30. We now lost all trust in Thomson or anyone in fact as when to arrive in the airport. So when I checked at 6:00 pm I was told they had begun checking in as the flight will depart between 9:30 and latest 10:30 and this was final.
Not wanting to mill around Ben Gurion for hours aimlessly again I didn't leave for the airport until 8:15. On arrival we see clearly on the boards that the flight will be at 11:00. Again an untruth to us, meaning more time spent with two infants in an airport.
After circling airport for a couple of hours at about 10:30 I go to the designated gate and find myself being informed of the cancellation of the flight. Unbelievable!
At 11:30 the flight was cancelled due to another problem. By now my wife in tears, as with a lot of others we were despairing ever flying back to London. We trusted absolutely nobody being subjected to constant misinformation to put it mildly.
