The first thing that must be observed is that Runescape does not require the purchase of any hardware or software other than the computer. Keeping this in mind, this review is based on the fact that no monetary payment is required to play.
Runescape has two modes of functionality: F2P[Free-to-play] and P2P[Pay-to-Play]. In F2P, the player is allowed to use many of the in-game functions and skills such as fishing, though will not be able to fish some of the marine life available in the game. Some skills such as slayer are not accessible to F2P players altogether, but will be unlocked temporarily for a $5[USD] fee per month. Once payment has stopped however, the P2P skills will be locked once again until further payment.
~[Child-Friendly]~
Because the majority of players who engage in browser-based[Play on your browser. i.e. Explorer or FireFox] consist of the younger population, Runescape censors anything inappropriate that other players may type.
~[Controls]~
Because Runescape is child-friendly the only controls used are the arrow keys and the two[left and right] mouse buttons. Thus, the dexterity needed to navigate through more complicated games is not required. Just a simple point and click.
~[Game Play]~
There are a variety of skills that the player may utilize in Runescape. These skills can do a variety of things, such as provide food for the player's characters, or provide armor.
Furthermore, there are a number of quests, both for F2P and P2P that the player can engage in.
~[Possible Improvements]~
Though an excellent game, Runescape fails to compromise between the child-friendly aspect of the game and the more mature players who play. The fighting system, which is the most important system in place, is quite elementary and looks ridiculous. What the Jagex[Creators of Runescape] staff should do is to provide a more complex and graphic oriented but still elementary program to with which to play the game instead of making it Browser-based, which limits its functionality and graphics.
