Very easy to use and easy daily maintenance. Good quick and consistent delivery of coffee which has a quality crema and over all flavour.
Over the years I have had many compliments on the coffee from this machine and friends of mine have purchased one after having coffee from my machine.
The chrome plastic tray is poor after a short time in service unless you try and look after it marking easily and internally losing the chroming.
Some people may consider its draw back to be that the Spidem Trevi Automatica can only use whole beans. In my opinion you cant get the best coffee flavour from ground coffee, but it can be difficult to get good quality beans limiting your choice of coffee. It is almost totally plastic which gives it a relatively stylish appearance even at the age of this design. It is externally more robust than it may first appear. It has a weak spot there is a plastic T shaped manifold connecting the pressure tank to the steam tap and froth nozzle. This part suffers from high temperature and leverage pressure from the nozzle if you aren't careful this part will fail. This part will fail regardless after a few years of regular use small hair line cracks form in the plastic manifold due to heat and stress.
My machine is currently out of action because of this part and to date I have been unable to get support from Gaggia UK. I am technically minded and I have removed the part and sent many emails to them with photos describing the part in detail. Over a month now and no result.
If they cant manage to support my machine I will have to look for a new one and its not going to be a Gaggia purely on the grounds of support. This is my fourth machine in 20 years it produced by far the best coffee and lasted the longest. I think I will buy a used professional machine this time around.
I should add that this machine isn't made by Gaggia it is manufactured by Saeco and re-badged as far as I can work out anyway. So maybe I can find an alternate source for the part. You may well be able to purchase this machine at a significant saving if you can locate one without the Gaggia branding. If you can this machine is worth while.
In most parts of the UK you will need to descale this machine regularly! I descale mine every week but I'm in an very hard water area.
