First.., and most annoyingly, you cannot split any video content created on the HDD

If you intend to do a mass transfer of those archive video 4/8 hour tapes, be prepared to have to press record and stop for each episode individually. None of this letting it record overnight and edit it later.

For example, if you have a 4 hour tape and you record it all in SP mode onto the HDD, you will not be able to transfer it onto two 2 hour discs, *because you can't split it*. Arrrrrgh!

This "split" functionality is present on other brand DVD recorders owned by friends and relatives and is, I feel a serious shortcoming on this model.

Secondly, in English (and every other video device I have ever purchased), the word "dubbing" implies that additional or new sound is to be added to an existing recording. It took several readings of the manual to realise that where they say "Dubbing" on the remote control, what they mean is "Copy". in order to copy titles between the HDD and DVD Discs, I needed to use the "dubbing" function on the remote control. Grrrr again.
