General Comments

I booked a week's holiday in Paphos for May 2008 with Thomson Holidays on an Internet booking, paying a £250 deposit by credit card. I expected to receive a letter of receipt but never did, but had the Internet details printed. By March 2008, I expected a letter asking for the balance, but no letter was forthcoming and I had to ring Thomson Holidays on an expensive 0871 number. They didn't recognise my booking number received on the Internet booking. After a long time and a lot of cost to me for the call, I was re-directed to another person who eventually found my booking on his computer. It was agreed that I would pay the £1250 balance by cheque.
I sent a cheque to Thomson Holidays but once again NEVER received a receipt or acknowledgement for payment. I rang again on Monday and was told that Thomsons now no longer send out receipts but that my tickets would be sent two weeks before the departure date.
I'm not confident and I'm VERY annoyed that after paying out £1500 plus, no receipt for payment has been sent. I was annoyed to be charged £10 last November on a flight only deal to Paphos from Doncaster just to put my check in luggage in the hold. This system was brought in AFTER I booked my ticket but I wasn't informed. There's one thing for sure. I shall never deal with them again.
Thomsons used to be good, now they are the worst of the worst.

    I have had an identical experience, with two holidays I have booked with Thomson. But I have waited two months for my confirmation receipt for one holiday and one month for the receipt for another. For me too it will be never again with Thomson. I agree that they used to be good before the TUI take-over! What has happened to the legendary German efficiency?

    Just a follow up to my original posting. We have had TERRIBLE problems getting the tickets for the Thomson holiday. I have had to make several more expensive 0871 phone calls to chase them up Allegedly, the tickets were posted on the 20th April and again 6th May. One set arrived today, about one week before we leave. Less than adequate in my view and I wonder if they would have arrived at all had I not pestered Thomsons

    However, Thomson Holidays STILL couldn't get it right! We booked All Inclusive, and that's what the ticket says against my name. However, against my wife's name, they have her down as Half Board! Just great, and another expensive phone call to Thomson, more waiting, more stress and more dissatisfaction. They say they will send a letter amending the details, but somehow I can foresee problems here if their past record is a guide.

    I noted with interest that Peter Lodge, the TUI (Thomson) Chief Executive was on BBC Breakfast today saying that despite the efforts of Gordon Brown and the so-called Credit Crunch, bookings were actually up by 8% this year. There's one thing for sure, we shall never book a holiday with Thomson's again after this debacle. As for Peter Lodge, he didn't impress me at all with his arrogant attitude. Others may see it differently of course.
