Good Points
It was simple to order online

Bad Points
Does not cover even most basic requirements of a Travel Policy
Very misleading policy document
Did not send copy of policy document after ordering
Were not helpful in the slightest when I had genuine major issue getting home

General Comments
I ordered Tesco Travel Insurance for a recent trip to Canada.

It was all a bit last minute so ordered only the day before. I was told I would receive a confirmation email confirming the policy but this never arrived.

Upon arriving back in Heathrow my flight was cancelled due to snow. I was on Standby for the rest of the day until the Airline said I would have to get the first flight in the morning. I quickly reviewed the policy document on the Tesco Website and was comfortable this would cover the expense of a hotel and Travel costs to the Hotel.

When I first called Tesco I spoke to someone who seemed intent on ensuring I was making a false claim. They told me my policy did not cover ANY LOSS as my policy was out of date. I advised the policy clearly states "If your Journey beings within the insurance period you are covered for the whole of that journey". He said it was not covered.

Upon phoning back the next person had a note of my previous conversation and advised the policy does (in fact) cover cost in relation to being delayed or a flight being cancelled. However They will cover a maximum of £20 per 12 Hour Period. That is IT!! They will not pay for reasonable Hotel costs , additional expense, nothing.

My bags are also now lost but I have also discovered Tesco Insurance will only pay any compensation or assist in any way once the Airline have confirmed the bags are Lost which can take up to 40 days. Once again not helpful in any way of the genuine emergency I was in or looking for ways to help. In addition they will only pay for lost Luggage Items I have a receipt for , so jackets , clothes , electric shaver which I bought some time ago would not be covered.

From start to finish in trying to make a claim they are always defensive and always looking for ways of ensuring you are not covered. They are no in any way helpful. You would be mad to buy insurance from these people . Mark my words , I am only thankful I was never in a genuine medical emergency. This is the worst example of an Insurance company I have found creating , in my opinion deliberately misleading policy summaries to sell the policies then using their vagueness to try to ensure they will not have to pay out.
